An Evening with Lion's Head

Who knew that one of the greatest experiences I've had in Cape Town would be free? Friday evening after work (which I spent in theatre helping change dressings of burns patients), a few friends and I decided to hike Lion's Head, a sister mountain to Table. We planned it so that we could watch the sun set over the city on our way down and our timing could not have been more perfect.

The hike up was an endorphin-rich good time, filled with great friends, breathtaking views and just enough of a workout to feel fatigued and fulfilled. Surprisingly, the second half of the trek up was pure bouldering, so we were essentially rock climbing up the mountain with only our arms and legs for support. Though definitely not impossible, it was enough of a challenge to get a rush of achievement when reaching the summit, especially for me, with absolutely no experience with rock climbing. At the very top, we took some time to eat up the dinners we packed and take in the 360-degree view of the city and ocean below. The sun was setting on our hike back down and our surroundings didn't even look real. We've already decided to make this a regular outing and I can't wait for the next excursion!

After returning to the farmer's market we discovered last weekend for lunch and fresh fruit, I spent the day once again at the beach, which is probably hard to hear for you snowbound folks back home. I took it easy for the remainder of the evening to rest up for more Cape Town fun tomorrow! Wishing you all a happy weekend.

My friend Audra grabbed a photo opp of us rock climbing to reach the summit - I'm at the top (sorry, Mom!)
